Every February 8 that ever happened

Geistlist

This is Geistlist. For typographic reasons, I have moved links to the metadata line, below the titles.

?. Have you ever taken a photograph on February 8?

Please upload them to our collection. I will be editing into a video shown on February 8, 2025 (see below). Possibly uploaded online but note if you’d like your content excluded from that part.

¶. Tonight 8pm: Nosferatu live scored by FRIPP & Anthime

The City Reliquary, Williamsburg, NYC, $0–20 (your call)

Last month I told you about the first time this happened. Turns out I’m hosting the second. It’s beyond sold out but tell Catie at the door I said it’s cool and you can still squeeze in.

¶. Every Friday & Saturday, 9:30pm: 60 plays in 30 minutes at the speed of time

The Second City (Blackbox Stage), Williamsburg, NYC, $20 ($15 students), or $18 + the roll of 1d6 but you have to be honest: email me your roll & date and I’ll set up your ticket

The New York Neo-Futurists began in Chicago sometime, and a contingent came to NYC in 2004. Two years ago we left our historic home below KGB bar, last year I joined the board, and last week we began performances at our new permanent home at another Chicago mainstay recently come to NYC: The Second City. Fun fact I recently learned: Stephen Colbert was accepted as a Neo circa 2005 but he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

¶. February 8, 7:30pm: A celebration of exactly one decade

The City Reliquary, Williamsburg, NYC, $20 (includes CD)

On February 8, 2015 my muselike friend Concetta Abbate released her first album. On February 8, 2025 we will replay it with a few significant twists, view images and moments we captured on Februaries 8 of any year, and celebrate a group of people in a room together that will never assemble again, celebrating one decade after an epoch only a few of us were aware of.

¶. February 12, 6:30pm: A play which would have been illegal to perform 43 days prior

Caveat, Lower East Side, NYC, $15

Every year, a book just come out of copyright and into the public domain is adapted into a nightlong variety show. This year: An Hour With the Movies and the Talkies by Gilbert Seldes (1929).

∞. 1984 @ ten

The episode of the podcast about the year, not the book

One of the best standalone episodes of a podcast came out on April 4, 2014, compiling archiveal audio with a misremembered childhood intersecting with the year 1984. Last year it turned 10. This year, it’s worth a listen.
