The Early to Mid-1990s

Geistlist

Welcome to Geistlist, the newsletter about Things for People that arrives when it needs to.

¶. Tonight 7-10pm: Open VCR Night

Open VCR Night is now the last Monday of every even-numbered month. I'm working on stickers.

Tonight: special guest Brian Thompson plans to drop by. Brian is the Pulit Surprise-winning investigative journalist behind Whatever Happened to Pizza at McDonald’s, and will be accepting any tips you have on whether you tried it, how it tasted, and your favorite VHS tapes from the early to mid-1990s.

¶. Too Many Things to Do On Leapday in NYC

  • Public domain Broadway in SoHo
  • Make a book report in Bushwick
  • Sample a THC-infused tasting menu in East Williamsburg

All three are hosted by good and strange people who I love.

¶. March 9–16: +1 (800) 3592-113592

I met Lisa Fagan when she wrote a free jazz opera/informercial with CHILD loosely based on a dream in which she tanned her anus in a shopping mall decorative fountain at sunrise, but stayed too long.

— me, June 2023

And now you can too. This play is an encyclopedic novel, it is a department store in the jungle, it is Dada’s afterbirth with talented singers. You will want to have been there. You will not like being there. I will be there March 9, 7pm.

∞. How To Have Become a Girl

A rare beauty on the internet is a thing which updates only when it needs to. Not just once per month or once per year—these are honorable commitments—but once per season of life. Part of the joy of having listened to the series series How To Be A Girl is experiencing it go from nearly weekly, to monthly, to seasonally, to annually, to now just whenever it feels right.
