I wrote 3 pages of a book

Geistlist Geistlist

I am Jacob Ford; you either know me or someone you know who knows me recommended you sign up for this thing, about things I am doing. Unsubscribe at the bottom.

¶. Out today: The Locavore Guide to Shopping NYC 2027

Online or at the Locavore Variety Store, West Village, NYC, $25

Caroline Weaver¹ has been cataloguing every retail and manufacturing business in NYC, culminating each Q4 in a self-published printed-in-TriBeCa physical guidebook, like a birding field guide for commerce. This year, I had the privilege of contributing a spread and a half on museum gift shops. I even rented a car and went to Staten Island for research. Nothing there made the cut.²

Buy it online, in NYC or Vermont, or if you swing by the West Village shop Sunday 12–4pm, Caroline will make you tea.

¶. Saturday & Sunday: Big Mmuseumm

Brooklyn Army Terminal & environs, Sunset Park, NYC, free

I write to you now from UncommonGoods.com’s warehouse rooftop,³ where a solar array just went online last week.

This is because I am in charge of Sunset Park for Open House New York Weekend, an annual architecture & infrastructure festival where factories, facilities, and construction sites open their doors for public inspection. Swing by Brooklyn Army Terminal or MADE Bush Terminal and find me biking around trying to make lines move faster. Lots to pop in on, including a very large exhibition I played a very tiny role in producing (listen for classical music).

¶. Nov 13 & 15: A play about being 14, shooting up a school, playing the trumpet, parents, and democracy

Theaterlab, Garment District, NYC, $20–45

I saw a working preview of this last year and it’s really good. “Immersive” is overused, but it might make you say things you don’t like saying.

¶. Last week: “Live grilling in my backyard” at 10 Years: A Symposium

My lecture on the last decade of Mark Zuckerberg was a success. You can watch it.

∞. Wish this newsletter was handwritten and about the state of clowning in and around NYC?

You should instead subscribe to Kento Morita’s Clown Rag.

¹ Though I’m now informed it’s a whole team operation.

² Historic Richmond Town does sell neat candles and tinworks made on site, but everything else was screenprinted blah.

³ Think family-owned Amazon fulfillment center, complete with (small) self-sorting conveyor belts. Email me back for videos.
